In this recording Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, one of the outstanding khayal singers of her generation, presents two morning ragas-Ahir Bhairav and Jaunpuri-and a Kabir bhajan. Ashwini Bhide began her musical training with Pandit Narayanrao Datar, and studied subsequently under her mother, Smt Manik Bhide, from whom she absorbed the distinctive approach to khayal for the Jaipur gharana.

She rapidly made a name for herself on the classical music scene in the mid 1980s, even as she divided her time between music, family and a doctorate in biochemistry. Ashwini Bhide is now well established as a concert and recording artist, and this recording was made on one of several overseas tours, at the Kufa Gallery in London on 17th November 1996. She is ably accompanied by Vishwanath Shirodkar on the tabla and by Mohan bhide on the harmonium.
