Vedavalli R Concerts Vol 1

R. Vedavalli

About this album

R.Vedavallis's concert is a rare blend of traditional classical music with an unrestricted flow of manodharma or creativity. She shares with the rasika a fascination for the endless possibilities that a raga may unfold to a questing spirit. She has a masterly capacity for clear articulation and the ability to communicate the deeper ideas of our musical tradition. Her music is an emotional experience.

1. 'Pagavari'(Hamsadhwani - Adi) is a Varnam composed by Patnam Subramanya Iyer a brisk which sets the mood of the concert.

2. 'Yagyaadulu' (Jayamanohari - Adi) is a composition of Thyagaraja. It is like Abhogi in the arohana and Sriranjani in the avarohana. Thyagaraja believes that those who perform sacrifices, carry with them their past and will always be attached to external objects. They will never realize Sri Rama.

3. Dikshitar has composed the Panchalinga krithis on the five elements. 'Arunachalanatham' (Saranga - Rupakam) is on 'Tejomayalingam' of Tiruvannamalai.

4. 'Karu Baru'(Mukhari - Adi) describes the reign of Sri Rama in Ayodhya where prosperity and happiness spread far and wide among all the people and the rishis.

5. Thyagaraja has composed many krithis in the raga Mohanam.
