About this album

'Veenai' Ranganayaki Rajagopalan born on 3rd May 1932 is the disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Late Sri Karaikudi Veenai Sambasiva Iyer, the first recipient of Presidential award for Carnatic Instrumental Music.

Her first performance was held in Karaikudi and her first All India Radio Broadcasting was in the year 1940. She was selected as the best 'Veena' player and presented with a veena by the then Governor of Mysore, Late Sri Dharmavera ICS in the year 1970.

Awarded the title of 'Kalaimamani' by the Government of Tamil Nadu in the year 1979. On 26th January 1984 in a function conducted under the auspices of Balasubramania Sabha, Chennai 28, the late Dr. Rukmani Devi Arundale conferred the title Veena Visaradha.

These recordings are presented to Carnatic music lovers and connoisseurs with a hope of re-kindling their great musical experience of the past. For those who were not fortunate to have been present on these concerts, these recordings are expected to have nostalgic value.
