About this album

Professor Vishnu Govind Jod, who plays the violin in the North Indian style, had his initial training from his cousin Shankarrao Athavale and the late Ganpat Rao Purohit. Later he has his training from Vighneswara Shastri and he completed his learning from Srikrishna Narayan Ratanjankar, a great musicologist and musician.

He also had the opportunity to receive valuable guidance from Ustad Allauddin Khan.

An artiste with immense charm and gentle manners, he is not only marked for his solo performances but also as an accompanist, and has accompanied such all time greats as Faiyaz Khan, Omkarnath Thakur, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Kesarbai Kerkar and Hirabai Barodekar.

He came into prominence as a violinist in the early fifties, and later joined the staff of All India Radio. He left the Radio in 1972 and is now devoted entirely to the cause of music teaching and propagation.
