About this album
Flautist Natesan Ramani, globally commended musical genius, learnt the skill of playing the instrument from the great maestro T.R.Mahalingam, simply known as 'Mali'. He has developed various fingering and blowing techniques, which showcases his exquisite ragabhava, precision of notes and control over laya. Dr.Ramani is the first genre to introduce the long bass flute that enables longer reach in the lower octaves.
R. Thiagarajan, son of Shri Ramani, learnt the art of playing the flute, violin and vocal from his father. Beginning his musical voyage from the age of 5, Thiagarajan has completed 2000 successful concerts all over the world. He is an 'A' Grade Flute Artiste of All India Radio, Madras and has composed and conducted for Vadya Vrinda. He has given many solo performances and also many Flute Quintet and Flute Trio with Dr.N.Ramani.
R.Athul kumar, grandson of Shri Ramani, started playing the flute at the tender age of 5. He is a 'B' grade artiste and has widely traveled throughout India along with his grandfather for flute duet/trio and for his solo concerts.
Dr. Ramani's Academy of Flute established in 1985 plays a key role in making the Carnatic flute accessible to every interested person around the world.
In this concert recorded live at the Music Academy during Dec. 2000, the trio enthrall their rasikas with their invigorating display of soothing, rich and extremely entrancing music on the flute.
