Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge (2010)

About this album

An interesting film-specific album, the score includes Pritam's imaginative take-off on Suhani raat dhal chuki, the Naushad-Dulari classic, amusingly penned by Irshad Kamil and sung with Saigal-esque intonations by Anupam Amod. Pritam employs Raghubir Yadav, Ajay Jhingran and Rajneesh in the fun Aaja aaja, while the remaining songs are by newbie lyricist-composer-singer Amit Mishra. Amit serves up the traditional Marathi aarti on lord Ganesh, Sukh karta dukh harta, but we wish he had not made the tune a shade deviant and also got it rendered by someone whose diction was correct. The Dohe are far more satisfying, while the title-track passes muster. Jyoti jalayale (a parody on Beedi jalayale) as a Sheranwali bhajan, however, is in sheer bad taste.
