Punjabi folksong is immersed with life, colour and variety showcasing the Punjabi culture, religion, happiness, sorrow, love, rituals, and battles as the main elements. The songs of the region have crossed the territory and have become popular across the world. The songs have been passed on from generation to generation reverberating with passion of the hearts. The rhythms of the songs are extracted from the day-to-day activities of the rural farmers, later coordinated to symmetrical pattern. There is variation in the tunes and melodies but Boli is popular all across. Generally the songs have minimal instrumentation other than songs used for celebration, which have the dominant sound of dholak.
