The oft term of Indian pop music or Hindi pop is Indi-pop. Indi-pop signifies Indian pop music or non-film music. The genre came into being in 70s and 80s but it became a rage in the 90s with artistes like Usha Utthup, Sharon Prabhakar, Baba Sehgal, Alisha Chinai, Shaan, Colonial Cousins, Lucky Ali, Sonu Nigam etc., flooding the scene. Indi-pop music is extracted from Indian folk or classical music laced with modern beats from all over the globe. The music also gets its essence from Bollywood, Bhangra and Western music. In the modern times there has been artistes like Talvin Singh who has inculcated the trend of fusion music, which also comes under this genre.
