About this album

Vijay Siva, is today one of the torchbearers of the DKP/DKJ school of Music. An artiste with a very deep and sincere approach to his music, Vijay will always release a program sheet before every concert of his during the season, which is much appreciated by rasikas. He also specializes in Tamil Isai. He has done research in the subject of Tamil films and Carnatic Music and has even presented concerts comprising Classical Film Songs only. Vijay is also involved with the Theatre.

Born to Smt Akhila Siva and Sr. A.N.Siva on 29th March 1967, Vijay Siva had his schooling in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Chennai, graduated with a First Class from Vivekananda College, Chennai and secured masters degree in Commerce from Madurai Kamaraj University. He learnt music first from his mother a vocal musician from Carnatic Music College, Chennai, and then from 1977 from DK Jayaraman till the latter's demise. Smt DK Pattammal currently guides him. Vijay is also an accomplished Mridangam artiste, having studies under Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer. Vijay Siva exhibited a rare intuitive capacity to identify ragas at the age of four.

Passed the Higher Grade Examination with distinction in vocal music conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government in 1984 and Sangeet Alankar Course conducted by the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi.

Vijay Siva has given a number of concerts in important concerts in India and participated in the Music Festivals of Sangeet Natak Academy. Vijay has given numerous concerts in India and abroad and has also released numerous commercial recordings. He has toured USA and Singapore in 1993. He has recorded for leading cassette-publishing companies. He is an 'A' Grade vocalists in AIR. A stage actor, Vijay Siva has taken part in state and Television plays. Presented Carnatic Music based serial for Satellite Television.

Honors and Titles - Vijay Siva has been awarded the Government of Indian Cultural Scholarship for vocal music from 1979 to 1987. He has secured more than hundred prizes both for music and for mridangam including the first prize for Thevaram, Thiruvachakam and Thirupugazh in 1974, the coveted Rajaji Tamboora in 1981 - both from Tamil Isai Sangam, Chennai and first prizes in Classical and Light Classical Music Competitions conducted by AIR in 1984.

Awarded 'Youth Award for Excellence' by Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust in 1995. Awarded the title 'Isai Peroli' by Karthik Fine Arts for the year 1995.

First recipient of 'Kalki Krishnamurthy Award' (1996) presented by Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust, Chennai.
