Sadiyaan (2010)

About this album

Adnan Sami goes on a derivative spree with songs sounding like old music from the '60s, '70s and '90s - there is even a clear similarity between Jadu nasha (Shaan-Shreya) and Sargoshiyon (the most overused word now next to maula!) by Shreya-Raja Hasan, wherein the latter simultaneously mimics Adnan and Sonu! Mika does his bhangra-pop bit in the familiar Man mouji matwala, while Shaan's Dekha tujhe jo pehli baar has ridiculous lyrics like Har ghadi ab mujhe/Har jagah ab mujhe/Tera intezaar inshallah that pulls down a well-sung melody. The best track is Richa Sharma-Sabri Brothers' Sona lagda has Bakshi-like pith in the verse - Rabba mere hadd ho jaaye/Ishq vishq jab ho jaaye/Aur sajda nahin aur sajda, while Kunal is brilliant in his duet with Sunidhi, Pehla pehla tajurba. Rekha Bhardwaj's Waqt ne jo beej boya is certainly not among her illustrious film works. A major downside with the album
remains the poor arrangements. The percussion is overdone - an Adnan hallmark - and there is too much of a rock flavour in many songs that do not call for it.
