About this album

Born in 1946 at Pollachi in Tamilnadu, Rajeswari underwent intensive training in vocal music from Vidwans Ramnad Krishnan, Madurai.N.Krishnan, D.K.Jayaraman and others.

Endowed with a rich voice, she has more than 30 years of experience as a performer and is also a teacher of merit.

1. 'Sree Mahaganapathim' Athana - Adi
Composer: Maharaja of Mysore
The late Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, ruler of Mysore, was a noted musicologist and composer with numerous krithis to his credit in Sanskrit. This kriti in Athana is the only song on Ganesa in that raga and describes the glory of that 'remover of all obstacles'.

2. 'Narada Muni Vedalina' Pantuvarali - Adi (Tisram)
Composer: Thyagaraja
This is a popular kriti from the music play 'Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam' of Thyagaraja and describes the descent of Saga Narada from the celestial regions. The Tisra gati is highly suitable for a situation like this. Narada comes singing the praises of Vishnu and playing his famous Vina at every step.

3. 'Jagadeeshwari' Mohanam - Adi
Composer: Tiruvarur Ramaswami Pillai
This Tamil kriti is in praise of the Devi by Ramaswami Pillai who was a recent composer with several dance compositions to his credit.

4. 'Mari Vere Gathi' Malavi - Adi
Composer: G.N. Balasubramanian
Balasubrahmanian, popularly known as G.N.B, was a charismatic singer of this century whose admires was legion. He was also a noted composer who reveled in composing in rare ragas. This Telugu kriti in Malavi reveals his ability in tackling the difficult raga.

5. 'Ganamuruda Paanam' Jyotisvarupini - Misra Chapu
Composer: Kotiswara Iyer
Kotiswara Iyer was an eminent Tamil composer of this century with more than 200 pieces to his credit. He published many of them in his 'Kanda Ganamudam' with notation. He composed in all the 72 melakartas and this song in praise of Lord Muruga is in Jyotisvarupini, the 68th mela karta.

6. 'Tillana' Purnachandrika - Adi
Composer: Ramanathapuram Srinivasa Iyengar
Srinivasa Iyengar, popularly known as Poochi Iyengar, was a stalwart in the field of vocal music and composition and has created numerous kritis, javalis and tillanas.

7. 'Tiruppugazh' Hamsanandi - Sanskirna Chapu
Composer: Arunagirinatha
Arunagirinatha was a savant and polyglot who composed thousands of songs called 'Tiruppugazhs' among which 1300 have been published. He has handled a large number of talas, known and unknown, and was a master of Chandam metre. This one of the most popular Tiruppugazhs.
