Vijay Raghav Rao In Concert

Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao

About this album

The Flute or the Bansuri is one of the earliest Indian folk woodwind instrument made out of Bamboo, used by the herdsmen to give a call to their cattle to come back. Owing to its association with the Lord Krishna it enjoys the spiritual appeal. This wind instrument has traveled through history and still retained its uniqueness. A very few artistes like Pandit Pannalal Ghosh and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia have been responsible to elevate the Bansuri (Flute) to be an able carrier of classical music.

Born in 1925 Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao was interested in every aspect of music. He took extensive training in Bharatnatyam also. Association with AIR - Delhi as an Artiste - Executive provided him ample opportunity to interact with many other musicians. It was here that he met Pandit Ravi Shankar. Their association soon developed into a Guru Shishya relation and this transformation period turned Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao into a master musician.

Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao was Chief Director with Films Division. He is the recipient of Padmashree and Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

Here we have presented Panditji's Live Concert Recording in which listeners will enjoy various ragas.
