About this album

Dr. Smt. Narmada, the daughter and disciple of Violin Maestro Padmashri M.S. Gopalakrishnan, had her initial training in Violin at the age of 5 from her revered grandfather, the Violin wizard Parur A. Sundaram Iyer. Continuing her training under her father, learning both Hindustani and Carnatic music, she is one of the leading accompanists cum soloists of the country.

She has been awarded the 'Best Violinist' award by The Music Academy, Madras. Having accompanied all top artistes of the country, she has also won gold medals throughout her career.

She has been awarded 'Doctoral Degree' from Delhi University for her thesis 'Ragas of Indian Music' which she completed as a senior U.G.C. fellow under the remarkable guidance of Sitar - Virtuoso Prof. Debu Chaudhuri. Narmada has authored many articles on music, which have appeared in journals in India and abroad.

Smt. Narmada is an 'A' Grade artiste and is employed as a staff artist in All India Radio.

She is also a good vocalist with tutelage initially from her mother and later under the revered Shri T.M. Thyagarajan. Her aim is to propagate the 'Parur MSG' style of Violin playing and to train a number of students all over the world.
