Madan Mohan - Tere Bagair

Music Director
Madan Mohan

About this album

They could have celebrated Madan Mohan's 85th birth anniversary in much-better ways, like with a recording of a live concert by even stage singers. The problem with Tere Bagair is that it defeats the very purpose for which these songs, culled from shelved films' recordings between 1964 and 1972 (the composer's commercial peak), are released - to recall a legendary music director with affection.
And this is because only the lead track, rendered with genteelness by Rafi is the only listenworthy one on a 16-song album! Lata, Asha, Talat Mahmood, Kishore and Rafi are all present in this selection, but none of the compositions do justice to these singing legends, and even importantly, to the reputation of the composer who is being remembered. Asha's Aye dil-e-nadaan and Lata's Mere ashqon ka gham, in that order, would be my choice if I had to choose a couple more passable tracks from a very humdrum album.
