About this album

Sri Kunnakadi Vaidyanathan, a front rank violinist of South India was initiated into music and Vedas by his father Ramaswami Shastri, himself a composer. Sri Vaidyanathan accompanied well-known musicians like Ariyakkudi, Semmangudi and Maharajapuram when he was barely twelve. In 1960 he started his solo concerts and for the first time, successfully experimented with Tavil, as an accompaniment.

In 1963, he started off as a freelance music director, setting music to over eight hundred songs. In 1970, he won the best film music director award from the Government of Tamil Nadu. He has produced three films. He has won the 'Kalaimamani' award of the Tamil Nadu Government and an award from the Kanchi Peetam. Dexterity and subtlety mark his unique handling of the instrument.

In this collection, he has rendered six of his own Thillanas in lilting tunes set to six different talas. The range of the thillanans brings out the innate music mastery of the artiste.
