About this album
The first two songs are classic Vishal-Gulzar gimmicks in the Dhan te nan-Chappa chappa canon for the masses - Dil to baccha hai ji (cutely rendered by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan) and Ibn-e-batuta (Sukhwinder-Mika). After that we enter serious terrain with two Rekha Bhardwaj solos - the very '60s-ish Ab mujhe koi and the thumri-like Badi dheere jali, which have an esoteric appeal and may to use a cliche - 'grow' on the listener. But we miss the instant appeal of her Piya jaise laadoo and the pure-n-solid merit of Kanha. An interesting but niche score.
