S Balachander was doyen in the Carnatic field, who
created a totally new style in veena playing which
is similar to that of vocal music. The quality of
his music was so high, that, only a selected liked
him and he never stepped down to lower levels to
please the audience and win their applause. A
non-compromising and dignified musician, he was
described as a Singham (Lion) by his contemporaries. He was also an accomplished musicologist, music director, singer, actor, film producer and director. Undoubtedly S Balachander is one of the veterans of this century.
